AQIS is the agency responsible for animal, plant and human quarantine border controls, of passengers and cargo. AQIS officers use X-ray machines and sniffer dogs in airports, seaports and mail centres to search for quarantine risk material.

Interswift maintains its own quarantine facilities, which means that our staff are certified to carry out quarantine checks on import cargo. After we have done the necessary checks and reports, these are handed over to an AQIS officer, who will then approve for the shipment to be released from quarantine, and delivered to your home.

Apart from our Door to Door quote, an AQIS fee will be payable for the quarantine check. This fee is payable in Australia once the quarantine process is over. Although we can pretty much gauge how much quarantine charges are going to be, it still depends on how many hours are spent on the quarantine process for your goods. That is why it is important not to import foodstuff and items made of untreated wood. Items of plant and animal origin will also attract longer quarantine periods. This is because of the costs involved to either treat or destroy possible contaminants in your shipment.
